Is Your PR Content Hot, Hot, Hot?

The summer sun is blazin’! What about your public relations copywriting?

If you are staying inside to avoid the hot, humid weather, it’s the perfect time to take a look at your PR content to ensure that it’s current.

First, what is PR content?

It is all of the copy, or writing, you use in your public relations, or communication efforts.

What messages do you communicate with external audiences like media members, sponsors, potential customers, and more?

And don’t forget your internal, public relations’ messaging, too!

What are you saying to your current employees, new hires, consultants, and other team members?

Second, what should you check in your public relations copy right now?

If it has been a few weeks since you reviewed your organization’s content, check for broken links, grammatical and spelling errors, automatic email sequences that aren’t working, old statistics and information, social media comments, advertising posts, and all other content.

After all, you may find one small issue that is stopping people from pressing the “buy” button!

What's going on with your PR Content? To make it easy, here’s a simple PR content checklist:

  • List all of the mediums you use right now to send out messages.
This includes website copy, internal and external emails, direct mail, social media accounts, and more.
  • Set a schedule.
Block out time to review each medium or delegate it to the appropriate people. Have them report back on the issues they find and how long it will take to fix. Then, create a deadline to finalize all of the updates.
  • Repeat on a Regular Basis!
Once you have this process in place, add it to your calendar on a monthly, bi-weekly or weekly basis. This way, you can catch issues before they become major problems, fix them and avoid wasting time, money and other resources. More important, by tracking all of your content, you can see exactly what’s working, keep your messaging current and ensure all of your customers are happy!

Don’t Sweat It!

While it may be hot and muggy, you shouldn’t be sweating because of your content results!

Instead, use this time to sit at your desk in the cool air conditioning and review your PR content.

Discover and fix errors, update old data and track results so you can save resources, communicate better with all of your audiences AND increase sales, too. Then, you’ll have more time to take a dip in nice, cool pool and enjoy that drink with the umbrella in it!
