We’re told that sometimes we need to get lost to find ourselves, and that the journey itself is the destination. With that in mind, is sitting by a poolside really traveling? Is a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower really what Paris is about? There are particular adventures to take around the world that are arguably more life changing, and none more so than a road trip.
Sure, there are dozens of road trip movies that show the characters getting up to all sorts of mayhem and mischief. Not every adventure needs to end up like Thelma & Louise or Little Miss Sunshine, but you can still come away with memories to last a lifetime. Yet maybe you’re thinking of all the reasons not to do it, well instead, how about more reasons for why you should.

Feel like an adventurer of old. You’re not shackled to any schedule, routes, or plan, so go where you want at a speed you’re comfortable with. The beauty of a road trip is that you control everything: no airport queues or potential train delays to deal with, only your own timetable.

Although that doesn’t mean you’ll just throw a map out of the window and drive around aimlessly. You have a lot of freedom certainly, but you can still use a site like Roadtrippers to mark points that interest you along your route. It would be a shame to miss out on exciting places that you may never get a chance to see again.

Renting a car is incredibly affordable these days. But you know what’s even more affordable? Renting an RV. Get to know yourself or others in a new light
Of course, it’s not compulsory to travel with anyone during your road trip; it’s perfectly fine to get away from it all by yourself and really have the time to unwind. Living in a big city can often be stressful when surrounded by so many people, so it’s naturally understandable to want to be alone for several days. That said, a road trip can definitely be an amazing experience when taken with friends, family, or a partner. There aren’t so many occasions in life in which we can simply hang out with those we love for hours on end, so use this time to get to know them better and seize the moment.
Really let go
There’s something about an adventure on the open road that really allows us to detach from our worries. These opportunities don’t come around so often, so leave fears and anxieties at home, and hit the road with a clear mind.
Get to know your country far more intimately
Isn’t it nice to actually better understand and appreciate the country you’re living in? Traveling far away is undoubtedly a rewarding experience, but in the likes of the USA and Australia certainly, there are national treasures that deserve your attention.
Do something different for once
A road trip isn’t likely to be a holiday you’re going to take a few times a year, simply because planes and trains are much quicker. But does quicker mean better? There will always be time for other modes of transport over your life, but a road trip is a unique and possibly once in a lifetime experience – so grab it while you can.
