Here’s how to earn some money from home and avoid scams.

By Muriel Vega

Ever wonder if you can work in your PJs, set your own hours and still get paid? It’s possible! If you want to earn a little extra money (we saw you eyeing those fabulous heels!), working from home can bring in cash for doing everything from tutoring to data entry to selling your crafts and writing about your interests. But legitimate websites are hard to come by; scams are abundant; and great opportunities are not. Here are some pre-screened sites that can help you earn some cash- plus a few tips on how to identify scams.

If you have a knack for making jewelry, pottery, clothing, or art, you can sell your creations at Etsy.com while doing something you love. At AlpineAccess.com you can earn anywhere from $8 to $15 an hour plus commission as a home-based agent by receiving customer service phone calls for corporations around the country.

Put your degree to some good use and earn up to $15 an hour with Tutor.com and their online classroom featuring instant messaging, file sharing and an interactive whiteboard.

With a base pay of $675 for the first two years and additional compensation for every click, About.com guides can earn about $1,000 per month. The ability to set your own hours and work from anywhere by talking about your expertise isn’t bad either.

Let the listings come to you

For a small yearly fee, Fortune Magazine’s Moneyfromhome.com does the job for you by screening legitimate work-from-home listings and delivering them to your Inbox.

WomenforHire.com offers home-based listings for anything from writing to data entry so you can contribute to the household income without neglecting your everyday responsibilities.
