Functional Fabrics
One word that best describes the fashion trends for the upcoming year is “smart.” A great way to shop less, save money and look stylish is to invest in year-round fabrics that work at work regardless of the weather.
Lace: It’s finally breaking free of the bridal stigma and nudging itself into the wardrobe of everyday working women. To balance the ultra feminine material, try pairing a lace top with a leather jacket and metallic accessories for a delicate yet edgy look.
Cotton: If taken care of correctly (keep cotton clothes away from extreme heat), your cotton garments will last a long time. Looking to dress up your favorite t-shirt? Pair a basic or a moderately decorated one with a pearl or draped metallic necklace, a boyfriend blazer, a pair of skinny work pants and some pumps. (Tip: If your budget doesn’t include dry cleaning and you’re not a fan of ironing, cotton and polyester blends help prevent wrinkling.)
Silk: According to Confucius, silk has been around since 2640 B.C. If you’re looking for a sleek and classic look, silk is the way to go. During the cooler months, wear your favorite silk top with a tweed pant and a simple colored cardigan.
Bonus PINK Link: You can dress these fabrics up or down, but should down even be an option for the office?
