Grab the Girls and Go!

The last time B98.5 radio host Vikki Locke took a girlfriend getaway, they hit the beach, ate, drank and watched “weepy movies.” She tells PINK, “I felt so good when I got home. Just like our computer, we all need a reboot every now and then in a way guys just can’t understand.”

“At the heart of it, girlfriend getaways offer women a female bonding experience,” National Geographic author and blogger Marybeth Bond tells PINK. “When we travel together, we laugh ‘til our sides ache, sometimes we cry together, and we return home rejuvenated, recharged and stronger.”

Janet DeVito, travel agent and founder of Girlsonacruise.com, says, “It’s rejuvenating to leave it all behind and spend time with ‘the girls.’ It’s good for your psychological health, your job and your other relationships.”

Ready to take off? For international trips, DeVito suggests Turks and Caicos for discounted group packages, St. Maarten for shopping, beaches and dining, and the Caribbean for great deals during summer months. If you’re staying in the U.S., Bond recommends destinations requiring minimal travel time, like nearby resorts, beaches, lakes or mountains. “Wine country in New York, Oregon and California” are favorites.

Bond also advises communicating how much you want to spend, whether you prefer to have your own room and when you need “alone time” each day.
