Rise of the Mompreneur

By day, she’s a professional powerhouse. She’s taking names and making deals, before venturing home for family pizza night.

She’s the next generation of entrepreneur, and she’s taking corporate America by storm. Meet the mompreneur.

Over 10 million entrepreneurs are moms.

Many women are redefining the choice between full-time mom and high-powered career. They are choosing both.

Just ask Jana Francis.

Four years ago, she wanted to find new baby products at a discount, but didn’t know where to look. After the birth of her third child, she left a 15-year corporate career to launch her own business. After 18 months of planning, BabySteals.com was born. The site connects moms to new baby products on sale.

And, what started as a $5,000 investment now brings $15 million a year.

Why are mompreneurs so in? “As a mom, I wanted to have the freedom of being with my family on my terms, not when my work schedule would allow it,” says Francis.

Flexibility is the big draw. “You can create the life you want to live, but it will take a lot of hard work and effort to get there.”

Francis says she can juggle corporate client meetings and bedtime stories, all without smearing her lipstick.
