Shaping Up Post-Pregnancy

Dreaming of fitting into your favorite shift dress just months after giving birth?

You’re not alone, especially if you’re comparing yourself to mommy celebrities.

Many women feel pressured to get their shapes back right after giving birth.

Lisa DeFazio, a nutritionist says: “You can’t compare yourself to any other woman, because every woman is starting from a different level.”

A study by CouponCodes4U, 57 percent of respondents were unable to shift any of the weight gained during pregnancy. Only 17 percent of respondents said they lost all of their ‘baby weight’.

According to DeFazio, every new mom can get back to her pre-baby body. But it’s important to make it work for you, especially as you return back to the office after maternity leave.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • DeFazio suggests joining a baby buggy running group or boot camp for new mothers. Women tend to lose weight faster when they stick to three low calorie meals a day with natural ingredients rather than processed ones.
  • Breastfeeding can shed calories. So can drinking plenty of water. Realistic goals reduce the chance you’ll get discouraged. As your body readjusts to a whole new routine, plus work hours again, your goals can make or break your weight loss endeavors.
  • Most importantly, speak with your doctor before starting any exercise regiment or diet.

DeFazio believes eating well and staying active during your pregnancy makes it easier to get back in shape afterwards.
