The Surface of Success

Just because the weather’s changed, your skin doesn’t have to lose that beautiful summer glow. You can have bright skin year-round.

Rebecca Booth, cofounder of anti-aging skincare line VENeffect, says a radiant complexion transforms your appearance, making you look younger and more vibrant.

Booth shares four secrets to having bright skin, every season.

Balance your diet. As the body’s largest organ, nutrition and metabolic balance are necessary for healthy skin. Booth recommends limiting carbs and sugar, instead opting for foods made with whole grains and wheat, and sugar substitutes. Also, eat foods with phytoestrogens for wrinkle-free and luminous skin. These include soybeans, nuts, chickpeas and lentils.

These daily supplements can help maximize natural beauty:
For natural glow, 1000 to 2000 mg of omega-3 oils. To stimulate collagen and help metabolism, 1000 IUs of vitamin D. To improve metabolic balance, 400 to 800 mcg of folic acid. Vital for collagen health is 100 mg of vitamin C.

Get enough sleep. When you’re sleep deprived, your skin suffers. Sleeping increases blood flow and balances hormones, leading to bright, beautiful skin. Eight hours is recommended.

Use the right skin care products. “Look for naturally derived options that enhance brightness,” she says, “while helping to maintain healthy skin from the inside out.” For fall and winter, Booth recommends a super-hydrating moisturizer.
