Unhappy? You’€™re Fired!

Think traits like a stellar work ethic and attention to detail are all it takes to keep you out of the unemployment line? New research suggests otherwise.

Turns out, about 46 percent of people about to be hired this year will fail (read: fired, let go or written up) within 18 months due to their attitude.

You may think you’re putting out the right vibes at work, but how can you be sure?

“It’s about determining if you and the company have the right chemistry [beforehand],” says Lauryn Franzoni, president of Leadership IQ.

“There’s so much talent in the market, skills have become commoditized.” That’s

one reason more companies are focusing on attitude as well as credentials.

For job candidates, Franzoni suggests asking specific questions about the work culture to determine if you’ll mesh well.

You can show you’re happy at work by maintaining enthusiasm, even if you’re having an off day, and taking ownership to show you’re invested in the company.

Approximately half of workers are unhappy in their jobs. If you can’t muster a good attitude in the office, it may be time to look for a better fit – or even a drastic career change.
