You’ve had it highlighted on your Smartphone calendar, bolded on your desktop and even scheduled a reminder email for yourself. But now the boss’ birthday is just around the corner and you’re still stumped on what would make the perfect gift.

Don’t worry: PINK compiled a simple gift guide to keep you on the boss’s good side.

“When in doubt, get something functional (vs. decorative or abstract) that your boss can actually use either in or outside of the workplace,” says Marcia Miller, CEO of gift company Mud Pie. “The closeness of your relationship should guide just how personal the gift should be.”

If your boss is a foodie, try a gift certificate to the newest buzz-worthy local restaurant. If she’s a traveler, how about a classy passport holder or this nifty pen with built-in paper?

Think she could use a refreshing bit of me-time? You can’t really go wrong with a spa certificate.

Not sure about the perfect present for a male boss? Miller suggests thinking about his hobbies. If he’s an avid reader, check out a book about trends in his industry. If his water cooler asides always include athletics, consider apparel from his favorite sports team.
