A Hairy Situation

Even the most confident woman can be knocked off her pedestal by the appearance of facial hair. So if you’re one of the 20 million women who remove facial hair weekly, you’re (obviously) not alone.

No one knows better than Etheldra Frederick, a successful systems administrator. “For years, I had to shave twice a day. When I walked in a room I felt like all eyes where on me – like they were looking at my beard.”

Hair removal is no new trend, but it’s growing in popularity as new procedures can permanently reduce hair up to 90 percent. “After undergoing laser hair removal, I no longer feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. I have no reason to hide my face anymore.”

Here are factors to consider when choosing a method of facial hair removal:

Pain: While there may be a tingling sensation or sensitivity with laser hair removal, the procedure is virtually painless. Waxing, quick and only mildly painful, can cause infection if done improperly.

Frequency and Duration: Waxing generally lasts two to four weeks, often requiring a monthly appointment. Electrolysis and laser hair removal have more permanent effects, but both require several treatments and gradually decrease the appearance of hair over time.

Price: Waxing, the least expensive, can cost $10 to $45 or more. Laser or electrolysis will cost you $100-$200.
